SureChill

SureChill Vaccine Refrigerators

Phase-change technology maintaining 2-8°C for up to 35 days without electricity, built for vaccine storage in off-grid East Africa.

Ninety percent of vaccine efficacy failures in Africa are cold chain failures, not product failures. The refrigerator is the intervention.

SureChill's vaccine refrigerators use patented water-based phase change technology to maintain a precise 2-8°C storage zone for up to 35 days after power is removed. SureChill refrigerators charge during available electricity and discharge thermal energy slowly through the water phase change, maintaining temperature passively when the grid fails. Jos•Hansen distributes SureChill units to county health departments, veterinary departments, private farms and NGO vaccination programmes across East Africa.

SureChill Vaccine Refrigerators

35 days without power

Kenya's rural electricity supply averages 4-8 hours of reliable power per day in many county facilities. SureChill's phase change thermal reservoir stores enough cooling energy during charging periods to maintain 2-8°C for up to 35 days without any power input. This is the primary vaccine storage solution for East African grid reliability.

No freeze risk

Conventional compressor refrigerators in off-grid settings frequently cycle to freezing temperatures, destroying aluminium-adjuvanted vaccines silently. SureChill's water-based thermal management cannot drop below 0°C. The phase change from water to ice absorbs excess cooling energy before the temperature reaches the freeze zone.

Solar compatible

SureChill units are designed for DC solar input, deployable to any facility with a basic solar installation including remote cattle dips, county veterinary offices and field vaccination campaign bases. The charging algorithm is optimised for the variable output of standard 150-300W solar panels.

Most vaccination failures are cold chain failures.

FMD vaccination campaigns across East Africa fail not because vaccines are unavailable but because they arrive warm. A vaccine transported in an ice-box for 6 hours in 35°C ambient temperature without temperature monitoring has unknown and frequently compromised potency by the time it reaches the animal. SureChill's passive thermal mass eliminates the temperature excursion problem without requiring constant ice replenishment or power continuity.

Government cold chain compliance is mandatory.

The Kenya Veterinary Board, Uganda National Drug Authority and Tanzania Bureau of Standards all have cold chain storage requirements for registered veterinary vaccines. SureChill units come with integrated temperature logging, calibration documentation and the regulatory specifications required for government programme accreditation.

The same technology that UNICEF uses across 40 countries.

SureChill refrigerators are the technology of choice for UNICEF cold chain programmes in sub-Saharan Africa, deployed across 40 countries for human vaccine storage. Jos•Hansen has brought the same technology platform to veterinary applications across East Africa, providing veterinary departments with the cold chain standard human health programmes have relied on for over a decade.
